- An overview of the curriculum, class project and mentor selection process
- Meet and socialize with new class members
Session 1 - Beaver Island Overnight Retreat: September 10-11, 2023 (2 day - overnight)
- An overnight retreat to Beaver Island
- Kick off your experience with team building/bonding activities and discussion on the meaning of Leadership
- Showcases life on Beaver Island as a unique, integral part of Charlevoix County
Session 2 - Connecting With Your Government: October 5, 2023
- Defines the roles and effectiveness of county, city and township governments
- View local governments up close and discuss the various leadership roles in our communities
Session 3 - Ethics, Culture and Philanthropy: November 2, 2023
- Explores the significance of art, culture, and philanthropy
- Discover how these things tie into local economic development
- Discuss the history of Charlevoix County as well as the Native American culture
Session 4 - Economic Development: December 7, 2023
- Discover success stories and challenges of area companies through tours of local businesses
- Learn about various business resources that are available throughout Charlevoix County
Session 5 - Building Your Communications Toolbox: January 11, 2024
- Discussion and hands-on activities that explore: Communications, networking, media relations and business ethics
Session 6 - Education Today: February 1, 2024
- Discover the challenges faced by students and educators in our local school systems
- Participation in discussions after the school visits will enhance your presentation and public speaking skills
Session 7 - Health & Human Services: March 7, 2024
- Gain awareness of challenges faced by disadvantaged people through demographic statistics and role-playing activities
- Learn about the resources available to these individuals
- Participate in a mini-health fair at the end of the day
Session 8 - Environment & Natural Resources: April 4, 2024
- Identify the relationship between natural resources, the economy, and quality of life
- Site visits and discussions with environmentalists show how promoting these resources is beneficial to the community
Session 9 - Where Do We Go From Here?: May 2, 2024
- Develop and present a Personal Leadership Plan to the class -- an action plan that reflects your individual aspirations and how they apply to your leadership enhancement journey
Graduation: May 8, 2024 (Evening event)
- Celebrate your Leadership Charlevoix County experience with mentors, sponsors and Board of Directors as you are recognized for your accomplishments and commitment to Leadership throughout Charlevoix County!
